Did serfs and peasants have any education in the middle ages?

Generally serfs and peasants were illiterate. Many of them could not even sign their own names. They worked long, hard hours in the fields and made little money. Of course there were exceptions to this. Some peasants may have sent there children to live with wealthier relatives if they had them and there they may have got some kind of education. Peasants often learned practical things that would help them perform their duties on their land.
