Why do most public toilet doors open inwards?

This is something that really gets my goat. Whenever I visit the Gents in a pub, I wash my hands afterwards only for the majority of blokes to walk right past me without washing theirs. They then pull the doors open to leave and I have to get hold of the same handle, thus rendering my hygiene routine completely useless. Why then don't they make the doors open outwards so I could push it open with my foot instead of grabbing the dirty handle? It may seem a bit OCD but it makes sense.
